Novell makes 5, 10 25, 50, 100 and 250 user licenses for 3.12 Netware. These are contained in the SERVER.EXE file that is stored on the DOS boot partition of a Novell 3.12 server. This file is also located on the SYSTEM-1 diskette that comes with Novell 3.12 installation in the big red Novell box. Updating to a larger user license. To update to a larger license, your current SERVER.EXE will have to be replaced with a new patched license. You will have to DOWN the server, EXIT to the DOS prompt and backup your old SERVER.EXE by renaming it to another file name. For instance, if you have a 10 user license, type REN SERVER.EXE SERVER.10 to backup the old license. Then copy the new SERVER.EXE to the C:\SERVER.312 directory. You will then need to patch it before restarting the server. Patching the original version. You will need to update any original version with a patch from the 312PDT.EXE patches. Failure to update will result in erratic operation and failure. The patch brings the 1993 version up to 2000 standards. These include the ability to recognize more then 32Mb of RAM and to load drivers designed for newer devices that are written for Novell 4 and above. 312PTD.EXE should be available from Novells site. Contact customer support if you have any problem getting it. Normally the files, LSWAP.EXE and LOADER.EXE will be found on the DOS partition of any server that we built or they can be extracted from 312PTD.EXE. Process: LSWAPE.EXE and LOADER.EXE must be in the current directory. Type the following commands to patch your SERVER.EXE once you have copied it to C:\SERVER.312: LSWAPE LOADER.EXE C:\SERVER.312\SERVER.EXE You will get a message that your current SERVER.EXE will be renamed to SERVER.OLD and updated SERVER.EXE is now in place. You will be able to check the current SERVER.EXE as it will now show a date of today. When you load the new SERVER.EXE it will still show version marked for 1993. If you have updated to a larger license, you can check the Monitor screen and the very top should report Netware v3.12 (25 user) or how many users are on the new license. Remember, it will still show the 93 date even though it is patched.
